Smoothing plane - Record 04

Record of Sheffield made no 04 Stayset smoothing plane

This plane features end and side adjustment of the cutter.

It is in very clean condition,with very little loss to the  paintwork. Possibly restored by  a previous owner? Great display piece or make a good user.

Handles and knobs are of selected Beech. (there is an old repait to the bottom part of the tote, still very solid).

The difference between a Stay-Set Record plane and a regular Record plane is the "SS" cast into the lever cap, and the two-part Stay-Set chip breaker

Lever caps and small screws were nickel plated.

All SS (Stay set) models were discontinued in 1965.

First introduced in Catalogue No. 10, published in January 1931.

Will require sharpening/honing before use.
