Smoothing plane - Calvert Stevens CS88

• An unused, mint condition RECORD Calvert Stevens CS88 smoothing plane

• This special edition CS88 smoothing plane was introduced in 1988 and was only offered until 1992

• The CS refers to Martin Calvert (production engineer) and Mel Stevens (plane production manager) who developed the plane and included various innovations used in earlier planes, such as a Stay Set type cap iron and a Norris style adjuster

• These heavy wide smoothing plane weigh in at a little over 6 pounds, and were meant to fill the gap left by the earlier English infill planes, much loved by Cabinet Makers

• Each limited edition planes has its production number cast into the body under the rear handle - this one is 002350
  

• Fitted with a  2 3/8 inch blade iron marked 'RECORD MADE IN ENGLAND'

• Hardwood handles made of Indian rosewood

• Gunmetal lever cap

• Retains100% of its green enamelled finish

• All parts move freely and tighten securely

• Fitted into presentaion box complete with certificate of authenticity

• 10¼ inches overall length x 2⅜  inches wide

• A Fine example of an uncommon hand plane

• Very slight discoloration to surface of top of cutting iron and knurled adjuster through long storage

• will need sharpening and honing before use to suit own needs
