A scarce early American STANLEY No 72 chamfer plane

Believed to be a type 2, circa 1886 - 1904

Marked 'STANLEY' on the left side of the main casting, and 'No 72' along with patent date 'APR.21.85' on the right side

The 1 5/8" wide cutting iron is very faintly marked 'Stanley Rule ????'

The bottom of the plane forms an inverted 'V', with sides serving as guides for the chamfer cut

Some surface staining spots

Rosewood rear tote handle and front knob

Brass 'faucet' type adjuster wheel

Early japanned thumb screw on the lever cap

Retains most of its original black finish

All parts move freely and tighten securely

Will need sharpening and honing to suit own use
